Born in Saline County, Illinois, March 1, 1843, where he resided for thirty years, coming to Jackson County in 1877, having resided here for the past 55 years. He was married to Sarah Turnham in Cass county, Illinois, and four children were born to this union. His wife Sarah passed away several years ago. His second marriage was in 1873 to Candace Cowen at Beardstown, Illinois and to this union were born ten children, seven daughters and three sons. Four of these children have preceded him in death. He was an honorable and upright citizen and will be mourned by a host of friends besides his family. He is survived by his wife Candace, and ten children: Charles A. Pankey of Central Point, Louis Pankey of Ashland, Willis and Archie Pankey of Sprague River, Ore., Mrs. Rosie Jackson of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Mary Grieve of Prospect, Ore., Mrs. Minnie Crance, Medford, Mrs. Guy Tex of Central Point, Mrs. Ethel McKinzie of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Fay Flick of Sacramento, Calif. One daughter, Mrs. Eva Conley of Klamath Falls, Oregon, passed away in June, 1929. Also twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-one great- grandchildren survive. Funeral services will be conducted from the Perl Funeral home, Monday, January 2, 1933 at 2 o'clock, Reverend J. M. Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in the Pankey cemetery at Sam's Valley.
