Born in Polk county, Oregon April 12, 1855. His parents came to Jackson county in 1859, locating on a section of land. His father gave to the residents of Sam's Valley the ground for burial purposes known as the Pankey Park cemetery. For many years he followed blacksmithing and farming. He was a member of the Sam's Valley Grange, holding the office of chaplain. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Louisa Smith of Kirbyville, Ore., and one brother, Lewis Pankey, Klamath Falls, Ore. Funeral services will be held at the Pankey Park cemetery, Sunday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Randall officiating. Funeral arrangements in charge of the Perl Funeral Home. Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Friday, 11 March 1927, Sam's Valley Items, p. 2 -- The death of Thomas Pankey took another member from the Sam's Valley grange and one of the pioneer residents of the valley. The community was shocked by the sudden departure from its midst of one of its best citizens. The passing of Mr. Pankey was doubly sad since it took the second member of the Pankey household within the short period of a week and left the Morgan daughter and son, Miss Linnie and Edwin, alone. The sympathy of the neighborhood is extended these young people, who have made their home in the Pankey home ever since the remarriage of their mother. A few years ago they suffered the loss of their aunt, Mrs. Thomas Pankey, and are now mourning the death of their father and uncle. Future plans for the young people have not been decided. Both own valuable property in the Fort Klamath section which they had intended to reside on with their father this summer. The funeral of Thomas Pankey held Sunday in the Sam's Valley cemetery was attended by a large crowd. The services were conducted by Rev. Randall of Medford and under the auspices of the Sam's Valley Grange.
