His sudden and unexpected demise is told by our Jacksonville correspondent in the following lines. On Tuesday David Peninger, of Central Point, one of the early pioneers, came to Jacksonville to pay his taxes, and afterwards visited among his numerous acquaintances and was apparently in the best of health. About 4:30 o'clock he started for home, and when just at the crossing between Geo. Neuber's lot and Judge Prim's place he fell from his buggy, his head striking the ground. There were no witnesses to the sad accident, but the first persons on the ground were Jake Beck and Henry Wendt, Sr., who came up the street soon afterward and who pulled the unfortunate man from beneath the wheels of the buggy. Beck hastily ran for Dr. DeBar, but before assistance arrived the last spark of life had gone out. On the arrival of Dr. DeBar he made an examination and pronounced the cause of death cerebral hemorrhage--or apoplexy. The remains were removed to town and the family notified. Mr. Peninger was in his fifty-seventh year. He was a member of Banner lodge No. 23, A. O. U. W., of Jacksonville. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church yesterday at one o'clock and interment was made in the Jacksonville cemetery. The services were conducted by the members of Banner lodge.
