PHIPPS FUNERAL SERVICE 2 P.M. THURSDAY Services for Laura May Phipps, who spent her entire life in Medford, will be held in the Conger-Morris chapel Thursday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Louis C. Kirby officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Iradell Judson Phipps. Mr. Phipps was the founder of the city of Medford. She was devoted to her parents and the church. When about 12 years of age she became a member of the Methodist church and was very active until ill health forced her retirement. She taught the "East Side Bible Class" for several years and was especially interested in the missions of the church. After graduating from the Medford schools, she entered Ashland Normal, completing a two-year course in one year. She taught both in and around Medford, serving for a time as principal of the Lincoln school. She gave up her teaching to care for her parents in their last years. A great deal of her spare time was devoted to art, both oil and pastel, and her home was filled with many beautiful paintings. Two brothers, Joseph and William Judson, preceded her in death, and two brothers survive, D. E. Phipps and Dr. I. D. Phipps, Medford. There are also a number of nieces and nephews in Medford and Canada.
