Died–In Gold Hill, Thursday, September 6, 1900, Guss Lewis Plenning, aged 
twenty-four years. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in [Gold] 
Hill, Saturday morning, September 8, 1900. Interment in Central Point 
cemetery.

week to the bedside of his brother, Gus, who was dangerously ill.

Gustauv L. Pienning. A precious one from us has gone / A voice we loved is 
stilled, / A place is vacant in our home, / Which never can be filled. / God 
in his wisdom has recalled, / The boon his love has given; / And though the 
body slumbers here, / The soul is safe in heaven. / Death’s keen arrow has 
pierced his heart, / He’s borne unto the grave; / In vain was human skill or 
art, / No mortal arm could save. / No more we’ll see his smiling face, / Nor 
hear his lovely voice, / Which oft has cheered our dwelling place, / And made 
us all rejoice. / We soon shall meet in realms above, / Our grief will then be 
o’er; / There we’ll unite in endless love, Nor part forevermore.  – Sister
