SMITH, PIONEER PASSES Eliza Adeline Smith, 81, a pioneer resident of Medford and Southern Oregon, where she has lived for the past 64 years, passed away at her home, 305 Portland Avenue, June 29th, at 2:55 P. M. after a brief illness. Mrs. Smith was born near Ukiah, Calif., on Jan. 1, 1961 [sic]. Although of an advanced age, she was very active until a month ago. She came to southern Oregon with her parents in 1878, and they settled on a large ranch near Phoenix, Oregon. She later met James Riley Smith, and they were united in marriage at Jacksonville, Ore., in 1881. Mr. Smith passed away in 1928. Mrs. Smith was a woman of fine Christian character and beloved by all who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Tungate of Butte Falls, Ore., and Mrs. H. F. England of Prairie City, Ore., one sister, Mrs. Lillie M. Hughes of Orland, Calif., and one half-sister, Mrs. Jennie Gridley of Red Bluff, Calif., also 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted from the Perl Funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m., Rev. D. E. Millard officiating. Interment will take place in the Phoenix cemetery beside her late husband.
