(Langley), Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Tuesday, 5 Oct 1943 -- Mrs. Winningham Pioneer Woman, Taken By Death -- Mrs. Martha M. Winningham, 83, passed away in Jacksonville Monday evening. She had been ill but a short time. She was born on Forrest Creek, June 15, 1860. In 1876 in Jacksonville she was united in marriage to Mark Watkins. Two years later they followed the pack trail into the Applegate, where she spent the rest of her life. Mr. Watkins passed away in 1900 and was laid to rest in the Jacksonville cemetery. Three children survive this marriage, Mrs. Pearl Stephenson, Butte Falls; Mrs. Mamie Winningham, and Robert Watkins, Applegate. On June 27, 1917, she was united in marriage to Mark Winningham, who survives. There are also 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Three of her grandsons are in the armed forces. Services will be held in the Conger chapel Thursday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Louis C. Kirby officiating. Interment will be in Jacksonville cemetery.
