SWINDEN, Charles Lee, Grant's Pass (Oregon) Daily Courier, Friday, 29 July 1927, p. 4 Charles Lee Swinden was born of an early pioneer family at Gold Hill, Oregon, June 20, 1865. He died in Grant's Pass July 25, 1927. He moved with his parents to the Applegate valley near Murphy in 1886. On December 25, 1895, he was married to Alida H. Day, at Murphy, Oregon. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Alida Swinden, and two sons, Ralph V., of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Gail C., of Los Angeles; two grandchildren, Vora and Robert; also one brother, J. E. Swinden, of Murphy, Oregon, and five sisters, Mrs. J. W. Johnson and Mrs. J. N. Adams of Grant's Pass, Oregon; Mrs. J. R. Stanley of Bellingham, Washington; Mrs. C. W. Stall and Mrs. Robert Graham of Los Angeles, besides many nephews and nieces and a hose of friends. Mr. Swinden was a loving and thoughtful husband and father. He was especially fond of children, and they in turn instinctively trusted him. He was always sympathetic, and most active in ministering to the needy and the sick. He always stood firm in his defense of righteousness and the Bible. The funeral service was conducted at Hall's Funeral Home July 28, by Rev. C. F. Mosher of the Baptist church. Burial was in Granite Hill cemetery. SWINDEN, Charles Lee, Grant's Pass (Oregon) Daily Courier, Tuesday, 26 July 1927, p. 3 C. L. Swinden passed away very suddenly last night at his home at 709 G street. He became ill at about 7 and death came at 8:15, despite efforts of physicians. Death was due to a heart attack. He leaves a widow and two sons, Ralph and Gail, both residents of California. The arrival of the sons is awaited before funeral arrangements will be made. The deceased was a member of a pioneer family.
