He died of complications after having a heart attack. Ed born near Albion Nebraska, and was the son of Clarence and Vera Egan. Ed moved to the Tangent area with his family and graduated from Tangent High School in 1940. During World War II he was in the Navy and served as executive officer aboard the USS Tortuga. He took part in the Marine Corps landings in the Pacific, and was wounded. He earned the Purple Heart. Esther Van Cleve became his wife and they were later divorced. Earning bachelor's degree from Oregon State College in 1948 Ed became a photography instructor at OSU. Next he earned a master of ministry degree from Yale University in 1954 and his doctor of ministry degree from New York Theological Seminary. Ed ordained and pastored churches in Connecticut and New York. He also pastored the Metropolitan-Duane United Methodist Church in Manhattan. He loved genealogical research and talked to living relatives, who have since passed for family stories. When he retired became an amateur archeologist. In Central America in 1988 he uncovered a two-foot high head of a Mayan god. It was estimated that the Maya god was about 2,000 years old. Ed is survived by his mother Vera of Albany. Son Dana Egan of New York City, daughter Trudi Jo Hendricks of Houston, Texas. Also, brothers Robert and Merlin of Albany, Richard of Salem and James of Millville, California, and longtime friend and companion Russ Morin of New York.
