Ontario, May 9:--The Holy Rosary Hospital, which was completed on April 5th and turned over to the Dominican Sisters by the contractors, Mallory & Mallory, has already shown the necessity of such an institution in Ontario. Not alone is this benefit for Ontario, but to the surrounding territory, as it has now staff positions and every patient is allowed to have who ever they choose to attend them. Several delicate operations have been performed at the hospital by Ontario, Vale and outside physicians. Those who are familiar with the hospital have pronounced the operating room as one of the most complete and up-to-date they have examined. To recite the building of the hospital would require considerable space, as a great amount of work was devoted to the project both by the Ontario Commercial Club and the Dominican Sisters under the management of the Mother Superior Catherine. The Hospital as it stands, today, cost approximately $40,000, of which $10,000 was donated by public spirited Malheur County people through the efforts of the committee appointed by the Commercial Club. The building is three story and a basement, and is thoroughly equipped in every way to take care of those who need the attention of such an institution. During the erection the Mother Superior faced many trials and difficulties but by persistent efforts, finally succeeded in carrying out her plans and, in fact, added many conveniences and improvements which were not originally planned. It is ideally situated with an east front and large verandas where the convalescent patients may secure the benefits of the morning sun. Bishop O’Reilly, of Baker City, has pronounced it as one of the finest buildings of its kind in the State and as modern as the St. Vincent Hospital in Portland. The Mother Superior, of the Holy Rosary hospital, left for Portland on last Saturday on an important business trip.
