Walt was born April 13, 1914, in Logan, Iowa, the second son of 10 children to Alvin W. Looney and Dora May Margaret Bateman-Looney. He was raised in mid-western Wyoming, moved to California in 1929, then later moved to Nyssa in 1944, where he had lived since. He married N. Fayetta Gann Sept. 23, 1945, in Reno, Nev. Walt is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob, Loyd, Ren, Glen, Earl and Merle, and sisters, Margaret and Midge. Survived by his wife, Fayetta; sons, James of Salem, and John of Nyssa; brother, Jack of Grand Coulee, Wash.; nephews, William Diak of Paige, Ariz., Alvin Looney of California, and Jim Brisco of Spokane, Wash.; nieces, Orlene Spotts of Torrence, Calif., and Rhonda Davidson of Electric City, Wash. J. Marie Hobbs Molt, Oct. 2, 1914 - Feb. 27, 2001, 83, New Plymouth, went to meet her savior and join her beloved husband, Arthur, on Feb. 27, 2001, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. Burial will follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. Marie was born Oct. 2, 1917, at Powhattan, Kan., to Jesse Huston Hobbs and Kathryn Emily (Munsey) Hobbs, one of eleven children. Marie married Arthur William Molt Aug. 3, 1936. Their strong faith and loyalty carried them through 60 years of marriage. Marie was a full-time mother and homemaker; her love for Christ reflects in her children and grandchildren. She has resided in Caldwell Care Center (January of 1996 to December of 1998) and Holly Care Center (December 1998 until her passing). The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Caldwell Care Center and Holly Care Center for their kindness to Marie and her family. She was loved and respected by all that knew her. Anderson, Jan. 21, 1911 - Feb. 28, 2001, 90, Ontario, passed away at home Feb. 28, 2001, after a long illness. Rodger was born Jan. 21, 1911, at Ephriam, Utah, to Joseph Franklin Anderson and Annie Pauline Olson Dorius Anderson, the fifth of nine children. As a young man, he moved to Vale, Ore., where he met Ruby Lynette Bronson whom he courted and married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, Oct. 31, 1935. Rodger was an electrician. He worked as a self-employed contractor and wired many homes, businesses and churches in this valley. He was also employed as an electrician for Ore-Ida Foods, Amalgamated Sugar Co. and Lime/Ash Grove Cement Co., from which he took his retirement. Rodger was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many responsible positions, including Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and Counselor in the Bishopric. He also served several stake missions, teaching anyone he met of the divinity of Jesus Christ and of His church here on earth. He loved reading the scriptures and singing the hymns of Zion. He was called to serve in the Boise Idaho Temple where he served for about 10 years. Service to his fellow man brought Rodger great joy and was always willing to help whatever the circumstance. Some of Rodger’s favorite hobbies were, as mentioned, reading the scriptures. He also loved to prospect, mining for gold and precious metals. He loved to grow a large garden and reaping the harvest of his labors. Health was important to him and foods grown at home were by far the most nutritious. He had a keen understanding of electricity and mechanics and enjoyed tinkering and inventing ways to accomplish a task he may not have had the proscribed tool for. Rodger is survived by his wife of 66 years, R. Lynette Anderson of Ontario; three daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Daryl Anderson of Pocatello, Idaho, Carol and Ed Lawrence of Nyssa, Ore., and Becky and Trev Wheeler of Nyssa; five sons and their wives, Sherman and Shari Anderson of Temecula, Calif., Glenn and Donna Anderson of Pocatello, Richard Anderson of Ontario, Lynn and Patti Anderson of South Jordan, Utah and Duane and Khrisandra Anderson of Ontario; 37 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and counting. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Ken was born March 15, 1936, in New Plymouth, Idaho, to Claude and Doris Peterson. He was raised and educated in New Plymouth and graduated New Plymouth High School in 1954. He married Orilla Eckley in New Plymouth in 1954, and from this marriage two children were born; Duane and Alan. Orilla died in 1958. He later married Bonnie. Three children were born to this marriage, Susan, Debbie, and Rick. Ken and Bonnie were later divorced. Ken was in the grocery business most of his working life. He began working at The Grocerteria in New Plymouth. He worked there for several years and then went on to manage stores in Boise, Idaho Falls, and Lewiston. He also worked in the fruit industry in Washington State. Ken was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and camping all of his life. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Claude and Doris Peterson; five brothers, Galen, Curtis, Larry, Arthur, and Robert; one sister, Beverly Hale, and his son, Duane. The couple later owned and operated Mae’s Shack in Weiser for 28 years. They were both avid golfers at Rolling Hills Golf Course and had many good times there. Steve passed away in 1974. Mae greatly enjoyed and appreciated her many friends and she would want to thank all of them for their many kindnesses and good times. She will be missed by all of us. God will bless her. (Jack) Carter on April 5, 1941. While in Utah, two children, Jack and Louise were born. The family moved to Nyssa in 1946, where her husband Jack worked for Amalgamated Sugar Co. In her 85 years, Marjorie saw many changes in the world, from travel by horse and buggy to space flight, the birth of five grandsons, two great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters. She lost her husband of 35 years in 1977. Survivors include two sisters, Bonnie Humphrey of Vale and Norma Peterson of Salt Lake City, Utah; her children, Jack of Nyssa, Louise Quick of Columbus, Ohio, Ralph of Kalispell, Mont., and Roger of Ventura, Calif.; five grandsons, and six great-grandchildren. She was born Aug. 31, 1910, in Palmyra, Utah, the daughter of Gilbert Nielsen and Jennie Thomas. LaRue was married June 4, 1931, in Burley, Idaho, to Gerald Tolman Goodfellow. They had five children, Jennie, Gary, John Alden, Bonnie and Bruce Lee. They farmed on the Oregon Slope for many years. She was an active member of the Hyline Club and enjoyed the association of her many friends. She enjoyed having family dinners and having her grandchildren come and stay with her. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having worked as a nursery leader and Sunbeam teacher for 18 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; two sons, Gary and Bruce Lee; her son-in-law, Leon Wimber, and her two brothers, Boyd and Llwellen. She is survived by her children: Jennie (Warren) Lloyd of Bancroft, Idaho; John Alden (Vaunda) Goodfellow, Fresno, Calif.; Bonnie Wimber, West Valley City, Utah; and her daughter-in-law, Dona Goodfellow, Ontario. He served as elder and deacon in the Salem, Oregon, Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was an outdoorsman who especially enjoyed camping and fishing with his grandchildren. Elsie was born in Phelps County, Missouri, Sept. 15, 1909, to Anvil and Sarah (Callahan) Heavin. Elsie and Frank Jackson were married in Houston, Mo., in 1926. Their union produced seven children. In 1942, Frank and Elsie packed their children and belongings and moved to Weiser,and then later made their home in Ontario, where they farmed. Elsie was a wonderful cook and was noted for her wonderful food and hospitality. She was a warm and loving grandmother. Elsie was active in extension activities and in the Ontario Heights Grange. She is survived by her children, Maxine and Ed Davies of Weiser, Dollie and Russell Wiggins of Vale, Jess and Charlene Jackson of Ontario, Marilyn and Ken Whitney of Eagle, and Becky and Jim Malloy of Nampa; two daughters-in-law, Kathleen Jackson of St. Maries, Idaho, and Margie Jackson of Nyssa; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In 1941, he went back into the sheep business with his father. Jan. 22, 1955, John married Jean McIntyre at The Dalles, Ore. They then moved to Harper, Ore., and lived there for 12 years. In 1967, the family moved to Ontario, where John was in the real estate business until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Jean of Ontario; two children with spouses, Greg and Chris Joyce of New Plymouth, and Anne and David Taylor of Libby, Mont.; four grandchildren, John and Joseph Joyce and Kristen and Elissa Taylor; a sister, Cele Jameson of Beaverton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mother was an active member of Treasure Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho, and reached out to share the love of Jesus Christ with everyone with whom she came into contact. Mother was devoted to saving the lives of unborn children with her many letters to government officials and her newspaper column. She had a brilliant mind, a loving heart, and a gift for writing in the form of poetry and prose to share her insights, thoughts and inspiration. Many people tell the family they are living happier lives because they were touched by this lovely lady, an angel on earth. Nellie graduated with distinction from Albertson College of Idaho in 1936 and was currently enjoying the Half-Century Club. In 1937, Nellie married Harry C. Logan and began her lifetime career as mother, teacher, and caregiver to others. In 1967, mother achieved a master’s degree in literary science from the University of Idaho. In 1970 , mother achieved her second master’s degree in library science from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. During mother’s professional career, she served as librarian during the founding years of Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon, and as librarian at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, Oregon, until her retirement in 1980, when she moved back to Idaho to be closer to family. In recent years, mother especially enjoyed serving as correspondent for her Payette High School Class of 1930. Mother was preceded in death by Harry C. Logan, her loving husband and pal of 47 years who passed away in 1983, and her young son Thomas Daniel Logan who passed away in 1958. In 1989, Mother subsequently married her longtime friend Albert Thurlow Bryant of Caldwell, Idaho, with whom she shared a delightful companionship until he passed away in 1992. Nellie K. Lee was a native of Drumright, Okla., where he was born to Walter and Maude Hunter Greenstreet Nov. 17, 1934. After spending his early childhood in Oklahoma, Lee’s family moved to Payette, Idaho. Lee received all his education in the Payette school system. Lee was a three year letterman on various Payette High School teams. He was involved in Many activities in the Payette area. Lee moved to Eugene, Ore., in 1953 and shortly went to work at Zip-O-Log Veneer as a clean up man. Lee retired from that employment 20 years later as general manager. In 1974, Lee and other partners bought the Denio Junction Café and Bar at Denio, Nev. Lee was general manager and part owner until ill health forced his retirement in 1998. Many people from many places will remember the acts of kindness they received from lee when they really needed a friend. Others will remember the tips on the best place to fish, to find big horn sheep, deer and chukars. Who can forget the many barbecues, spaghetti feeds, dances, mud volleyball or the Fourth of July fireworks that only took 1/2 hour to put out the fires. Many different things over many years all were fun. Lee will be missed. He spent most of his working life as an auto mechanic in Payette where he had his own auto repair shop for many years. His retirement years were spent helping family, friends or anyone who needed a hand. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Payette Second Ward. Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Payette; four children, Sherena and Robert Coffman of Sweet, Idaho, Gary Northrop and Michael Northrop, both of Salt Lake City, Utah and Bob and Linda Northrop of Tillamook, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Leora Helen Parish, Feb. 26, 1914 - Feb. 10, 2001, On Feb. 10, 2001, our stepmom, sister, aunt and friend left us for life with her heavenly father. If you are unable to come, please take a moment and remember her during the service time. Leora Helen Parish was born Feb. 26 1914, in Gunnison, Colo., the third child of Charlie and Bessie Smith. She grew up near Mora, Minn. As a young women, she moved to Buffalo, N.Y. and worked for Curtis Wright where she helped to organize the women employees during the early years of World War II. Lee was honored for her organizational role and went to Washington DC to meet Eleanor Roosevelt. Lee spent many years working in restaurants. She helped her brother, Charlie Smith, and husband, Curly Rodenizer built and operate The Lazy 3 Restaurant on the El Mirage Dry Lake near Adelanto, Calif. People really enjoyed her family style dinners and she made many lifelong friends on the high desert. She left the desert to care for her mother in Oregon and later returned. She obtained her real estate license, selling real estate for Fred Stone until her retirement. Lee loved animals and shared her life with many loving dogs. Her hands were always busy with yarn or crafts. She loved to crochet and spent many hours making lap robes for the Veterans, baby afghans for her family and friends or for donations to area hospitals. She loved to call Bingo for her friends at Apple Valley Residential Home in Emmett. She will be greatly missed by four generations of nieces and nephews who knew her as "Aunt Lee". She was a very loving person and always had time to help her family and friends. In 1960, she married Darren Venters and for the next 30 years they lived in Pocatello, Idaho, Casper, Wyo., Fairbanks, Alaska, and Federal Way, Wash. During the construction of the Alaska Pipeline she worked for Alyeska Pipeline Service. After moving to Washington, she worked for Boise-Cascade Office Products. In 1989, she returned to the Emmett Valley. She was a charter member and past president of the Evergreen Club, R O A L, and was past president of the Emmett CPI club and a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Carol grew up with the love of horses and her piano. Over the last few years her activities have been restricted due to failing health. She enjoyed learning her new computer system and cooking for her friends. She is survived by two sons, Eric Venters (Rhonda) of Port Orchard, Wash., and Trent Venters of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Diane Venters-Benskin; grandsons, Seth and Scott Borman; granddaughters, Robin and Sophie and one great-grandson, Andrew. Ron’s lifelong passion was autobody work, starting with his very first project at the age of 15 years old a 1956 Ford pickup. Vernon worked for years at the Henggeler Ranch in Fruitland and there wasn’t anything about raising apples that he didn’t know. He was an avid sportsman, he hunted deer, water fowl and upland game birds his entire life. He was an expert fly fisherman and tied his own flies. Survivors include his cousin, who was raised with him, Doris Soper of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born Feb. 13, 1904, in Frankfort, Ind., to Jesse and Mathilda (Haag) Gerber. Ernie’s happiest memories were of his years as a young man in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he spent 10 years working as a trapper and dog sledder. World War II intervened, however, and he eventually entered the U.S. Army. In 1942, he married Adelia "Dee" Skoog Eastwood in Portland, Ore., and became the stepdad of George and Raymond Eastwood. They later had two daughters, De Ann and Donna. Ernie was a gifted carpenter, owning his contracting business in North Bend, Ore., where he designed and built beautiful family homes. Farming was another facet of his life. He owned farms in Oregon City, Ore., area as well as Ontario, Ore., where he lived for many years. He was a member of the Ontario Heights Grange. He is survived by his children, George (Barbara) Eastwood of Eugene, Ore., Raymond (Janice) Eastwood of Jerome, Idaho, De Ann (Rick) Schied of Auburn, Wash., Donna (Glenn) Anderson of Pocatello. Having been born in the United States, raised and schooled in Japan, and returned to the States, she was a "kibei". While in Japan she lived in Hiroshima until the age of 18. In 1935, she married Henry Tsubota. During the war her family was evacuated to Minidoka, Idaho. They farmed in Vale, Ore., and in 1947 they moved and farmed on the Oregon Slope. In 1956, Peggy began working at Ore-Ida Frozen Foods and in 1957, her husband, Henry, became an electrician at Ore-Ida. Peggy retired from Ore-Ida in 1980. She was a member of the Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple in Ontario. Survivors include a son, Ronald Tsubota of Ontario; three daughters, Mary Ann Tsubota of Ontario, Noriko Nomura of Portland, Ore., and Beverly Tsubaki of Ontario; a son-in-law, Haruyasu Nomura of Portland; two grandsons, Christopher Nomura of Portland and Shane Tsubaki of Ontario; and a brother-in-law, Min Tsubota and his wife, Cherrie of Mercer Island, Wash. After graduating from Dalles High School in 1943, he entered the navy. After two years he was discharged and went to Oberlin College in Ohio. He also schooled at Pacific University. He returned to Oregon in the early 50s when he married Betty Jean Cox. They had two children, Mark and Sally. They later divorced and he moved to Coquille, Ore., where he met and married Lois Jean Remaly in 1957. They had five children through the next seven years; Greg, Dirk, Lori, Meri and Cindy. In 1968, he and his family moved to Ontario, where he set up a permanent practice. They divorced in 1988. He later married Lois Jane Wardle, an old college sweetheart from Ohio whom he has been with since. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved nature and life in general. He was one of the original founders of the Snake River Sportsmen and devoted most of his later adult life to its causes. He was an accomplished marksman and leader and well loved by his community. He will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two grandsons. He married Cleta Mae Kellogg Aug. 6, 1939, Agallah, Kansas. Kenneth taught in several rural schools in Kansas and in Parma. After teaching, he delivered fuel to farmers for several years. He worked as an appraiser for Malheur County for 10 years before retiring. During retirement, he drove the Nyssa Senior Citizens bus, delivering meals and taking seniors to doctor appointments. He was a long-standing, faithful member of the Nyssa Church of the Nazarene where he served on the church board and drove the church bus. He was a friend to everyone he met and willing to help those in need. He had a great sense of humor and love of reciting poems and stories.
