Rev. C. C. Houda of the Baptist church, officiated, with the interment following being made in the Ontario cemetery. Elbert Butler, Jr., was born in Woodbine, Iowa, May 11, 1878. He came to Oregon in the spring of 1890 and had spent practically all the time since in Malheur county, where he was engaged in stock farming. He married Miss Ada Ellen Glenn in Boise, Aug. 18, 1898, the two making their home on the ranch which Mr. Butler had bough eight miles south of Ontario. Surviving are his wife and their children, Conley, Vernon, and Edmund Butler, all of this county, and Mrs. Helen Strane of Salt Lake City. There are also two brothers, Will of Ontario, and Rea, recently of Caldwell, three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Farmer, Ontario; Mrs. Anna Tollith, Meridian, and Mrs. Pearl Snodgrass, Klamath Falls. An unusual coincidence of Mr. Butler’s passing was that he died on the birthday of the uncle for whom he was named, Elbert Butler, Sr., whose death occurred a couple of years ago.
