He was born Jan. 18, 1870, in Middletown, Ohio. He was married to Margaret Foster, may 4, 1897, in Osage, Kan. They celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Hinkle began work as a cowman at the age of 11 in Kansas. AT one time he engaged in gold mining. He moved from Colorado to Pocatello in 1911 and started to work for the railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1947. He had been an engine watchman and pumpman and had charge of the stockyards. He also worked in Mountain Home for the railroad and at Harper, where he was given the job of watching a tunnel to keep rocks and weeds off the tracks. The family also operated the old hotel at Harper and Mrs. Hinkle did the cooking for the railroad passengers. They purchased a farm near Harper when he retired at the age of 73, and they had lived there until recently when they moved into the nursing home. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Vale and of the Masonic Lodge in Mountain Home. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Vale; a daughter, Mrs. Jasper (Jennie) Perry, Vale; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two daughters preceded him in death. Services were conducted Saturday at the LDS Church in Vale by Bishop Neil Hiatt. Interment was at Valley View.
