W. Hope, Dies Isaiah W. “Zay” Hope, Vale’s senior citizen and permanent president of Malheur County Pioneer Assn., died Wednesday night. He would have been 101 on Sept. 28. A resident for more than 80 years, he served as postmaster, was an early day mayor and, with his brother, operated the first store in Vale. His wife, the former Lillie Gellerman, preceded him in death. He had made his home with his daughter, Miss Hazel Hope, for several years. Also surviving are four other daughters, Mrs. Irma Lowry, Cambridge, Md., Mrs. Norma Rasmussen, Portland, Mrs. Bernice Tate, Seattle and Mrs. Maisie Cook, Ashland; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services are pending at the Weible and High Chapel in Vale.
