He was born Aug. 3, 1894, at Mapleton, Utah, the son of John S. and Evalyn Maud Matson Perry. The family moved to Mt. Glenn, Ore., in 1900 where they were engaged in farming. He attended school at Island City, Mt. Glenn and La Grande. The family moved to Rupert, Idaho in1915 where they were once again engaged in farming. In 1926, he returned to La Grande and worked in several different lines of work before taking an ICS course in engineering. After his retirement from the Oregon State Highway District in 1947, the Perry’s bought a ranch on the Malheur River just above Harper. Their ranch became a showplace as they worked together on their labor of love, manicuring their cattle ranch. Health problems required them to sell the ranch in 1975 when they moved to Vale, where he had since resided.
