Wilson Jan. 8, 1919-Sept. 1, 1999 Robert R. Wilson, 80, Nyssa, died suddenly of a heart attack Sept. 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nyssa High School Auditorium, with the Rev. Jim Anderson of the Nyssa United Methodist Church performing the services. Interment will follow at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery, Nyssa. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at Lienkaemper Chapel, Nyssa. Bob was born in Nyssa, Jan. 8, 1919, the second of three sons born to Ernest and Alice L. Wilson. He attended schools in Nyssa and graduated from Nyssa High School in 1937 and was a graduate of the School of Business at the University of Oregon in 1941. Bob served with the U. S Air Force from 1941-1946 and married Marie Holman in Nyssa July 8, 1943. After World War ll, he returned home to work with his father and brother in Wilson Bros. Department Store. He became owner-manager of Wilson's Dept. Store until 1981 when he retired. He was a very active member in Nyssa's growth during those years. He was the secretary-treasurer of Nyssa Enterprises, chairman of Nyssa Salvation Army Service Committee for 35 years, member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, and president of the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Nyssa School Building Committee after the school fire, he was the finance chairman for eight years for the Nyssa Baseball for Kids program and, in 1963, he was president of the Nyssa Booster Club. He became very active in the Red Cross Blood program and the Nyssa Fine Arts. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Nyssa Eagles Lodge and a lifetime member of the Ontario Elks. In 1980, the Chamber of Commerce honored Bob for his many years as a business leader in Nyssa, and in 1987 he was honored by the Nyssa Sports Boosters for his many years of service to Nyssa Athletics. After his retirement, Bob and Marie took oil painting lessons together and between them they have produced over 50 paintings and had several shows at the Nyssa Library, U. S. Bank and the Treasure Valley Bank. As a couple, they enjoyed all the school sports, bowling, and golfing and Bob particularly enjoyed a morning ritual of playing ping-pong with his friends and coffee budies. His survivors include his wife, Marie Wilson of Nyssa; four daughters, Judy Martin of Hillsboro, Ore., Carol Wilson of LaGrande, Ore., Linda Erland of Oregon City, Ore., and Marilee Strong of Boise, Idaho; two sons, David Wilson of Salem, Ore., and Tom Wilson of Boise; a brother, Lloyd Wilson of Nyssa; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one grandson. Memorials may be made to the Nyssa Sports Boosters in care of the Nyssa High School and the Nyssa United Methodist Church.
