Several years later traveled by steamer "Star of the West" via istmus of Panama to San Francisco and then by land to Oregon. This picture taken in 1906 when Edward Hirsch was Postmaster of Salem, Oregon at the end of a long career in Oregon state politics from 1860's. He was also a delegate to the Republican National Convention of 1864 in Baltimore, MD nominating Abraham Lincoln to his second term as President. His younger brother, Honorable Solomon Hirsch, was also active in Oregon politics and the Republican Party as well as the Oregon State Senate. Solomon goes on to become the US Minister to Turkey in 1889.
