ARCHAMBEAU, Elmer Apr 22, 1857 - 1883 - 1949 Sept 5, 1933 [13 May 1949] Sarah Francis Cummings was born in California 07 Feb 1859 (sic), coming to Oregon in 1876 with her mother, four sisters and a brother, settling near Roseburg. She married Lewis M. Archanibeau 14 July 1878 and they lived on a farm in Flourney Valley, Douglas County until 1891. Two children, Francis Burden and Lewis Edmond Archanteau died when young. She was survived by her husband, one son, Elmer and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Leffler. [SML 21 Oct 1920] Note Sarah's tombstone gives her birthdate as 1869 and her obit gives it as 1859. Census records indicate the latter year to be the correct one, although the 1900 U. S. Census says she was born in Feb 1858. Also, it should be noted, she was married in 1878 and her first child, Francis Burden, was born in July 1879, both dates making the 1869 year pretty unlikely. Lewis M. Archanbeau was the son of Francis Xavier & Josephine Malinda (Eearden) Archarrteau, early settlers in Douglas County, OR, being End Page 3 Marion County OR Cemeteries Lone Oak/Stayton Page 4 listed there in the 1860, 1870 & 1880 U.
