The seven who survived them were: Richard C., Edward B., Henry A., Arthur A., Mrs. Laura U'Ren, Mrs. Julia Downing, and Mrs. Bertha Smith. Possibly the other child was Erdhar, who was listed with them in the 1895 Marion County Census, age 12, born in Oregon. Their son, Henry A., is in Twin Oaks Cemetery at Turner and the daughter, Julia Downing is in the Oddfellows Cemetery at Marcola, OR. Arthur A. Keene, another son, was with Pomeroy & Keene Jewelers in Salem for many years. [from Downing family records] This lot was purchased 15 Nov 1897 and that could be when Albert 0. died (no obituary or death notice located in Stayton Mail or Oregon Statesman). John N. & Albert J. both died prior to the start of this cemetery and were probably moved here after Albert O's death. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Aisle = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Section Two - Lot 12 space MANGLE, Minnie 1879 - 1900 [03 Sept 1879 - 22 Feb 1900] space MANGLE, Glen S. 1878 - 1937 [12 Oct 1937] MANGLE, David S. G. Haag who had been ill with "la grippe", as had also his wife. His wife made all the arrangements for her husband's funeral and related he was born in Pennsylvania of Dutch parents, was 74 years and 8 days of age; had lived in Illinois and Kansas and, for a number of years, had resided in and about Stayton. He was a menter of the Evangelical church, and a preacher of that denomination for many years, she also having preached occasionally. About 10 PM that same evening, Mrs. Haag also died. Their funeral service was held in the Stayton cemetery and the two bodies were laid in one grave, side by side. Mary J. "Polly" Haag was the daughter of Henry & Arthusa Kephart, who are in Pietrok Cemetery in Linn County. She was about 60 years of age, according to her obituary. Mary Haag, according to Marion County Probate #2342, which also gives her death date as 05 March 1905, names an only heir: Miss May Morgan, granddaughter, age 7, of Brownsville, OR, the daughter of Mrs. Lillian Morgan, Mary's deceased daughter. J. C. Morgan was named the guardian of May. John W. Kiphart (sic) was identified as her next of kin & only relative in Oregon. The probate record also included the information that she was interred in Block #14 on the west side of the drive, in lone Oak --End Pg 13 Marion County OR Cemeteries Lone Oak/Stayton Page 14 Cemetery. He was survived by 3 children and several grandchildren. He was a Civil War Veteran. [SML 03 June 1926] It should be noted the 1890 Special Schedule of Civil War veterans gives the information Ephriam Shepherd served in ,Co. B of the 40th Iowa Infantry , which differs from what is on his military marker. He enlisted in Aug 1862 and served until Nov 1863 when he was discharged on a Surgeon's certificate. The Shepherd children in Lone Oak are: Minnie 0. Brotherton, in this lot, and Adam A. Shepherd in Sec. 2 lot 33. It seems likely DONA GERTRUDE ECCLESON is also in this lot. The Stayton Mail of 24 January 1908 tells of the death of Dona Gertrude, aged 5 years and 10 days. A Card of Thanks from Mrs. Eccleson & E. Shepherd and family, is published the same day, thanking those who assisted during the illness and burial of "little Dona Gertrude" Also, B. Shepherd purchased this lot on 18 January 1908 - the day Dona Gertrude died. Minnie 0. (Shepherd) Brotherton was the mother of Dona Gertrude Eccleson. His father, David Gerking appears to have died in February or March 1899 as a Card of Thanks is in the Stayton Mail of 10 March 1899 thanking the "got people of Stayton" for assistance during illness & funeral of David Gerking, deceased. It was signed by J. N. 13. Gerking and Mrs. A. C . Hepburn (note Albert was not included) and these two "could" be the brother & sister referred to in Albert's obituary.
