He married first, Elsie Etta Heit who died in 1919; second, Lena Mize who died in 1924 [she in City View Cemetery, Salem] and possibly a third time as his obit indicates he was survived by a widow. He was also survived by his son, Heit, and three daughters. He died at Mill City. [SML 15 Nov 1928] Elsie Etta (Heit) Pancoast was born 20 Sept 1877 at Port Royal, Pennsylvania. When 12 years of age her parents moved to Sandusky, Ohio where she lived until 1896. After the death of her father, her mother moved the children to Philadelphia where Elsie grew to womanhood. She was married to A. S. Pancost 25 Feb 1904. They came to Oregon in 1909 and to Stayton in 1910. Besides her husband, she was survived by three children: Heit; Elvera and Elec Erta; three --End Pg 27-- Marion County OR Cemeteries Lone Oak/Stayton Page 28 sisters: Miss Anna Heit & Mrs. Wm. Everett of Stayton and Mrs. Elmer Emery of Philadelphia. She died at Stayton. [SML 01 May 1919] The Pancoast infant has not been identified, nor has a death date been located. Since this lot was not purchased until Elsie Pancoast's death in April of 1919, the death was probably after that date and may have been a child of A. S. by another wife. There was no indication in Elsie's obituary that she had died at the time a child was born. This could be the case, however, with the child dying shortly thereafter. [If the child would have died at the same time as Elsie, it would probably have been buried with her and not separately.] When Lena Pancoast died in 1924 she was survived by a son Walter and three stepchildren. Since she was buried at City View Cemetery, in Salem, it seems a child of her's would have been buried there too, or, if this was her child who had predeceased her, it would seem she would have been buried here beside that child since there is a space available. Possibly this was a child of the third marriage as A. S. Pancoast's obituary indicates he was survived by a son and three daughters - possibly there was another child of that marriage. Or this could be a grandchild. * * * * * * * William Stewart was born 04 July 1829 in Ayrshire, Scotland, coming to Canada when 20 years old. Six years later he moved to California and from there to Oregon where he settled on the farm where he died, east of Sublimity. He was survived by a widow, a brother, a half brother, and two half sisters. He had joined the Presbyterian Church as a young man. Burial was at Hobson-Whitney Cemetery (making him one of those who is known to have been moved here). [SML 22 April 1904]. William Stewart's estate [Marion County Probate #2314] lists his only heirs as his widow Isabella, 58, of Marion County; half sister, Janet Graham of Scotland; half brother, John Stewart, address unknown; and brother, James Stewart of Glasgow, Scotland. Margaret Stewart's tontstone refers to her as "sister" and says she died in 1872. There is a question about the accuracy of that information. The 1880 U. S. Census, which shows William Stewart in house 82 of Sublimity Precinct, includes Margaret, age 36, born in Scotland and identified as his sister. This would indicate an error on her death date, making it, more likely, 1882. Her age at time of death, 39 years, fits too, considering the census may have been taken before her birthday in 1880 and she died after her birthday in 1882]. The Marion County Marriage Records include two listings for "William Stewart" to an "Isabella". The first one is in 1873 and it seems doubtful this is for the couple here since there is no Isabella listed with him in the 1880 Census. The other marriage is on 20 June 1885 [MR# 3113] for William Stewart to Isabella Graham. No obituary was located on Isabella Stewart. Since this lot was purchased in September of 1915, it seems likely William & Margaret were moved here at time. --End Pg 28-- Marion County OR Cemeteries Lone Oak/Stayton Page 29 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Aisle = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Section Two - Lot 27 MC CRORY [triple stone] MILLER, Ben H. [SML 30 Nov 1911] The 1895 Marion County Census shows the McCrorys living at Shaw, as was Herbert McCrory, age 20, who was born in Minnesota. Ida May Stewart was the daughter of D. C. & Louisa McCrory and the mother of Blanche M. Lambert, who is also in this lot. The 1895 Marion County Census lists Ida May as "Lambert", living at Shaw with Blanche, who was 8 years old, born in Minnesota, as was Ida May. D. C. McCrory ordered the services for Blanche May Lambert through W. T. Rigdons in Salem. * * * * * * * * * * * Louise Bomberger Byerley, formerly of Scio, died at Dayton WA. Watters 21 Apr 1868 and they became the parents of eight children, 2 of whom died at an early age. Burial in Lone Oak beside husband & grandson. Her six children are named. [SML 19 Jan 1922] Wilson Shannon Watters was born 28 Nov 1838 in Knox County, Ohio, moving with his parents to Pekin, Illinois at the age of 13 years. He married Susanna Hart on 21 April 1868 in Lancaster, Illinois and they became the parents of 8 children, 2 of whom, Charley & Loe E., predeceased him. They moved from Pekin, Illinois to Mason, Missouri where they spent the winter of 1875, moving to Kansas in June of 1876. They came to Oregon by irrnigrant train to San Francisco and from there, by water, to Portland. [SML 18 Nov 1920] The 1890 Special Census for Civil War Veterans indicates he enlisted in the Civil War in July of 1861 and served until May 1866. He suffered gunshot wounds in his right shoulder and left hip. --End Pg 30--
