Two daughters also survived him. [Oregon Statesman 08 June 1940] Edna & Ida Bass were undoubtedly daughters of Matthew & Alice, being 2 of the 4 children who preceded their mother in death. Some old records indicate Mr. Bass purchased this lot 19 July 1899, and if that date is accurate, they were surely moved here from another burial place. Another daughter, Bertha Urban, in in Sec. 1 Lot 162 and son Sam is in Sec. 3 Lot 23. Jessie McLarty was also the daughter of Matthew & Alice (Gore) Bass. She married Albert L. Schaefer, 03 Aug 1906, and they were the parents of Donald & Macel M. Schaefer. The ODI indicates Jessie’ s spouse was William McLarty. Albert L. Schaefer, the husband of Jessie (Bass), was born 09 July 1880, the son of Carl & Maria Schaefer who, with several of their other children, are in Wisner Cemetery near Kingston. Albert was survived by his widow, son, daughter, 5 sisters, and 3 brothers, [SML 29 Mar 1934] His sister, Lizzie Conn, is in Sec. 2 Lot 55. [SML 31 Oct 1918] George Julian Ward died about a year after he, his wife Alpharetta and their 2 children arrived here from Kansas. [see The Oregon Statesman, 29 May 1884]. Those children have been identifed as C. He was survived by his son, widow, three sisters and one brother. [SML 03 Jan 1924] Sherman E. Smith was the son of S. A. Smith of Linn Co. He was 21 yrs 5 ms 1 day at time of death and was survived by his wife and a child [SML 22 July 1926]. While there was no mention of relationship to James E. Yeoman, it seems likely he was a stepson (note Yeoman’ s marriage to Mrs. Smith). The reconstructed cemetery records of 1954 indicate there was an illegible marker in this lot which may have said Mother Hill. I wonder if that could have been Stella (Bass) Yeoman. The ODI includes two listings for E. Yeoman (?Estella?), one on 22 Dec 1906 and the other 22 Jan 1907 - just exactly one month difference in the dates and probably a duplication or correction. Nothing was located in the SML regarding her death, however. Since James Yeoman married again in April 1914, it is possible he was a widower at that time. * * * * * Christopher C. Eisenhart [sometimes referred to as George C.] was born 23 Nov 1831 in Baton, Wurtemberg, Germany, coming to the United States with his parents when he was 1 1/2 years old. They lived in Baltimore, MD for 8 years, moving from there to Savannah, MO until 1850 when the Eisenhardt family came to Oregon where the parents, Lawrence & Mary Ann Eisenhardt took out Donation Land Claim #321, which was near Silverton. Christopher C. Eisenhart also had a Donation Land Claim, #2497, as did his sister & brother-in-law, George & Julia Woolen, #1502. The senior Eiserihardts, Julia Woolen and son William H. Eisenhardt are all in Bethany Cemetery, near Silverton. Another son, Lawrence F. Eisenhardt, who was the father of Helen Fresh (see Sec. 2 Lot 24), is in Silverton Cemetery. [See DLCs; Hist. of Silverton County, pg 78; and SML 01 March 1917] Mary Ann Eisenhart was born in Missouri 10 Aug 1838, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Matilda (Baldwin) Stanton who settled in the Waldo Hills in 1853. She married Christopher C. Eisenhart 12 Oct 1854 in Marion County, OR. They had no children of their own, although they adopted a child who died young and raised several other children, including his niece Helen (Eisenhart) who married her nephew, Francis M. Mary Ann (Stanton) Eisenhart’s parents, Benjamin & Matilda Stanton, along with 2 brothers, George C. & Benjamin Stanton and a sister, Margaret (Stanton) Fresh are in Stipp Cemetery at Macleay. A brother, Andrew B. Stanton and a sister, Elizabeth (Stanton) Gist are in Grier Cemetery, near Stayton. Munker’ s tombstone lists his birthdate as 03 April 1845, his obituary gives his birthdate as 05 Feb 1847 and adds that he was born near Salem, OR. He was married in 1875, at Heppner to Miss Mabel [sic] Gilmore and they had five children, four of whom were living. [SML 06 Nov 1919] The Umatilla County Oregon Marriage Records, Vol. C, show Frank Munkers married Bell Gillmore in Dec 1875 [date not given] - Heppner would have been in Umatilla County at that time. Francis M. Munkers was the son of W. R."Riley" & Mahala (Roberts) Munkers who are in Salem Pioneer Cemetery. See DLC #151 & Marion County Probates #1749 & #1795. Mary I. Haskel Huntley purchased this lot 04 Dec 1900 and it seems likely the father died about that time. The son, Wheaton W. Huntley was living when Emogene died in 1929. Unfortunately, The Stayton Mail, for this time period in 1900, is not extant, so no obituary was located which might have clarified this. Haskel N. Huntley was born May 1859 in NY and died at his home near Kingston, aged 64 yrs 11 mos 16 days. He married Emogene Birchard, 01 Nov 1885, in North Dakota and they became the parents of 6 children. He was survived by sons: Wheaton, Henry, Haskell & Clarence and a daughter, Miss Stel la. One daughter, Lucy, predeceased them. Emogene Huntley was born 15 May 1866 in Vermont, the daughter of Willard & Juliana (Holden) Birchard. Her mother, Juliana Birchard and a sister, Carrie Shank Freeman McCallum, are in Sec. 1 Lot 190. WFH records show Thomas Badger was interred 11 Sept 1921, coming from Fortmi 1 ler FH in Albany. The SML did not have an obituary on him, nor did one of the Albany papers. The other Albany paper is not extant for Sept 1921. WFH handled the services for Martha Ellen Badger and their records indicate her father was John Bounds and her mother - - Brink. No obituary was located for her either. Thomas R. Badger married M. Ellen Bounds in Polk County, OR on 30 Sept 1867 at the house of John Bounds [MR Bk B pg 38]. The 1870 Census finds Thomas & Ellen living at Waterloo, Linn County - there are no children listed. The 1880 Census finds them in Santiam Pct., Linn County, with 5 children: Elma R., 11 years; Mary E., 9 years; M. Ella, 7 years; Margaret A., 5 years and Dollie, 1 year. Also living with them was M. A. Bounds, age 63, identified as mother-in-law [this information enabled me to located their marriage record]. The Badgers were living in West Roseburg Pct., Douglas County when the 1900 U. S. Census was taken. There are only two children still at home - Dollie, age 21 years and Ethel who was 18 years. Also living in the household was Elma R. Badger, age 75, identified as his mother. This census indicates Martha Ellen Badger was the mother of eight children, with only five of them living. I suspicion they lost one child prior to 1880 (notice the 4 year gap between Margaret & Dollie) and two children after 1880. Unfortunately, there is no date of purchase on the entry in the old sexton ledger, but the entry before was for Oct 1895 and the one following was April 1900. This indicates a purchase date between 1895 and 1900 and is probably when at least one of burials took place. When the sexton records were reconstructed in 1954, contact was made with Mrs. Dolly Badger Corsady, or Cassidy, of Milwaukie, OR and she gave the names of those buried here. I suspicion there was a misunderstanding in regards to Coridan Holmes, he actually being Coridan Holmes Badger.
