Hunt donation land claim, north off State Street on 119th, established in 1858. Read July 3, 1987, by Bernita Sharp and Daraleen Wade. Where the markers give only the year of death we have used other records [the Oregon death index, obituaries, family records, etc.] to find some of the full death dates and have included them here in [brackets]. Section A, Lot 1 - owner: Elias Colby East Row: Allen J. [small stone, no other info] COLBY [large stone] COLBY, A. J., May 1, 1848 - Mar 25, 1856 [North side] COLBY, M. M., Mar 18, 1806 - Nov 23, 1889 [West side] COLBY, E. F., May 6, 1811 - Apl 29, 1884 [South side] Mother [small stone, no other info] Father [small stone, no other info] West Row: No indication of burials. Elias F. and Mary M. Colby were living in Silver Creek Pct. when the 1880 U. S. Census was taken. His probate, #913, identifies Mary M. as his widow and Mrs. Frances A. Forward as his daughter. Mary M. Colby's probate, #1185, identifies Francis Ann Forward, the wife of Blair Forward, as her daughter. It also names a granddaughter, Mrs. Mary E. Elliott. For further information on this family see Donation Land Claim #541 and History of the Silverton Country, by Downs, pg 78. Section A, Lot 2 - owner: Neuschwander East Row: No indication of burials. West Row: NEUSCHWANDER, Philip - Sept. 16, 1877 - April 26, 1881 NEUSCHWANDER, Ira - April 5, 1891 - March 27, 1892 NEUSCHWANDER, Katie - b. Aug 1, 1893 - d. Aug. 1, 1893 The 1880 U. S. Census of Marion County shows the above Philip Neuschwander living in the household of P. and Emma Neuschwander as their son, along with other children. The Neuschwander family are living in the John BIERY household in Silver Creek Pct. Marion County Probate #1467, for John Biery, who died in July 1893, identifies Emma Neuschwander as his daughter. The Bierys are buried in the Lewis Cemetery. The 1895 Marion Co., OR Census shows the Neuschwanders. living at Macleay. Their oldest daughter, Elizabeth, the lst wife of John S. Heyerly, died in Sept 1899 & is buried at Knox Butte Cemetery in Linn County. Peter, Emma, & at least 3 other daughters, Anna, Magdalene & Lydia, are also buried at Knox Butte. Section A, Lot 3 - owner: Peter Herr [no markers located] East Row: No indication of burials. West Row: No indication of burials. Recent contact with Herr descendants fails to produce any knowledge of family burials in this cemetery. There was a Peter Herr,, age 25, living with the Peter "Giser" family in Silver Creek Pct. in the 1880 U. S. Census. In January 1883, at the house of Peter Geiser, Peter Herr married Louise Geiser. Peter and "Louisa" are buried in the cemetery at Pratum, as are the Peter Geisers. The 1900 Census indicates Louisa Herr was the mother of 5 children with 2 of those children, Leona & Elvin, living. Possibly the 3 deceased children are buried in this lot [there is no indication of them in the Pratum Cemetery list]. Since Leona & Elvin are the only children named in the 1895 census, and they are 10 & 7 years of age, it is likely the 3 children died prior to 1895. Section A, Lot 4 - owner: Mrs. Ed Luthy [no markers located] East Row: No indication of burials. West Row: No indication of burials. Section A, Lot 5 - owner: [no name on map & no markers located] East Row: No indication of burials. West Row: No indication of burials. Dean E. Mulkey, Section C, Lot 18, is his grandson. West Row: PARRISH [double stone] Walter, 1876 - 1960 Rosetta, 1883 - 1957 PARRISH [double stone] Glenn A., 1907 - 1956 Alice E., 1903 - 1970 [died 13 Feb 1970, 66 yrs] Walter & Rosetta Parrish were the parents of two children: Glenn A. West Row: GIVEN, George, 1827 - 1897 [engraved on curbstone] [21 Aug 1897] GIVEN, Isabella, 1828 - 1912 [engraved on curbstone] [01 April 1912] GIVEN, Kenneth H., Dec. 31, 1905 - Feb. 26, 1977 Flowers on next space - no stone found [This could be VEARRIER, Mary E. who died June 15, 1968, age 73 yrs. A listing of this cemetery done in 1969/70 shows her with the Givens and her obituary indicates she was to be buried here.] George & Isabella Given were living in Sublimity Pct. in 1880, near the Clymer and Humphreys families in T8S RlW S 2,3,10 & 11. Isabella's mother, Mary Welch, age 79, was living with them and it would seem possible she could be buried in this cemetery too - no evidence of this has been located, however. The Givens children married into the Jacobs, Gibson, Clymer, Sappingfield, Whitlock, Thomas, Riches & Morley families. Their son, Charles H., is buried in Section A, Lot 18. Kenneth H. Given & Mary E. Verrier were grandchildren of George & Isabella, and the children of Charles H. & Florence (Riches) Given. Section A, Lot 8 - owner: Thompson East Row: [filbert, spirea, peony] No indication of burials. Gobalet household in Sublimity Pct. John "Kistling", age 50, 1880 Census, living alone in Silver Creek Pct. is probably the father & husband. John Kissling may have married, as his 2nd wife, a Mary Blauer, as she is buried beside him here. No marriage is found in Marion County. William J. Kissling and Marie Luthy, both of whom were born after 1880, buried in this lot, appear to be children of a second marriage. Section A, Lot 10 - owner: T. J. There are no markers, or other evidence of burials in this lot. James Gilham, who has "tended" the cemetery for many years, and has lived adjacent the cemetery since 1902, indicates there were burials of 5 or 7 children of Jacob W. King, probably in the 1890s. The only name located is for Chester, aged 3 months, who died November 29, 1904 three miles southwest of Turner, Oregon. He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. J. W. King and burial was to be at Mt. Hope. Jacob W. King, the son of the Wilburn Kings, married Mary Isabelle Weaver in Marion County, OR in December 1880. The first census they are found in is the 1900 when they were living in the Yew Park Pct. in Salem. [There is no 1890 census & they were not located in the 1895 Marion County Census. They appear to have been in the State of Washington by January of 1890 and there thru, at least, January 1892 as 2 of their children, Guy W. & Herschel were born there at that time.] The 1900 Census indicates Mary Isabelle (Weaver) King was the mother of 8 children with 4 of them living. The oldest child living in 1900 was Guy who was 10 years old, which could indicate the first 4 children born to this family could have died since Jacob & Mary had been married almost 10 years before Guy was born. It is likely these 4 children are buried in this lot and Chester, who was born & died in 1904, would account for the 5th child. There is also time enough for another child to have been born to Mary about 1898 and another between 1900 & 1903 which could account for 7 children being buried here.
