Two Journal reporters succeeded in stopping them at the ambankment on Commercial street near the approach of the North Salem bridge, after the team had wound around a tree several times. No damage was done, but it was a narrow escape. The driver was thrown out into a pond of water as the tem started and got quite a soaking. The excitement along the course run by the team was considerable. It is surmised that the driver was celebrating the New Rear to some extent or he would not have gone overboard.
