Woodburn Independent December 1, 1888
On Monday evening,while our harness maker was at supper, a lamp that was left 
burning, in some way set the shop on fire.Fortunately it waas discovered in 
time to prevent a serious conflagration.

Smallpox is reported at the Tannery of Mr.Zimmerman, near Needy. The report has 
created quite an excitement here.

Mr.McDonald, one of our merchants, has gone to Grande Ronde to assist his son 
in fixing up a grist mill, which will soon be in running order.
