Smith,s baby is quite ill. Mr. and Mrs. W.L.Tooze,of Woodburn, are visiting. P.Glover, of Albany, is in town. Charles Smith, of the firm of Brown & Smith, is up from East Portland and will remain here for two or three days. H.L. Bents, of Butteville, spent the day in Salem. J.B, Dimick,of HUbbard, is visiting. Hon. Charles Miller, of Jefferson, is a visitor in Salem today. Joe Hoefer, of Champoeg, was in this city Saturday. Mr.Hoefer is one of the heaviest taxpayers in the county. Ben C.Irwin and Robert Wakefield,of Portland; Miss Ruby Smith,of Albany, and John R. Markley, of Corvallis, are registed at the Willamette. The Misses Scotts have gone to Woodburn to remain several days.Their popularity at that place as dresssmakers is so great that their services are in constant demand. One of E.C. Cross' delivery horses was drowned last evening in the North Mill creek at the Liberty street ford. The driver barely escaped. This is a very dangerous place and people should exercise soem care in attempting to cross.
