The Daily Independent April 6, 1893
Sheriff Noble, of Heppner, and his deputies brought in three prisoners for the 
pneitentiary today. One by the name of E.D.Jones received a sentence of one 
and a half for obtaining goods under false pretenses. The other two, Mr. and 
Mrs. Richardson, received one year each for Malicious destruction of property. 
They took a new buggy and set of harness from a neighbor's barn at midnight 
and literally hacked them to pieces.
