Rebecca A.Harper was born October 10,1842 at Weltland,Ontario,the eldest of 10 children of Mr.and Mrs.Robert harper.She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and four sisters. her second marriage ,1885,was to Hiram Alonzo Skinner,prominent Ontario,Canada,school teacher.They came at once to Salem to reside on what became known as the Skinner farm,in what is now the Salem Heights area.Both,Mr.Skinner and her first husband died many years ago. Mrs.rebecca Harper Skinner moved to West Salem 20 years ago.living here four years before marrying J.T.Hunt.Mr.Hunt survives her at the family home here. Mrs.Hunt is also survived by two children,William H.Squier of Mohier and mrs.Edward Becken of Independence:two brothers and one sister of Welland and a brother,James harper,of Saskethewan;13 grandchildren and seven great grand children. She was united with the methodist Episcopal church at Welland and transferred to First methodist church,Salem,when she came west.She was one of the charter members of what is now known as Ford Memorial Church.In 1916 rev.T.D.Yarnes,who was then pastor of the West Salem circuit,made the following regarding her,in a historical sketch of the work of his parish: "At West Salem,the name that is preeminent above all others connected with the founding of things is that of Rebecca A.Hunt" She was held in honor here for her tireless labors in the church File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/or/marion/obits/h/hunt2795gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/orfiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
