Woodburn Independent December 15,1888
It is with profund regret that we chronicle the death of our fellow 
townsman,Mr.H.D.Thiel, which occurred in this city on last Monday,Dec.10th. 
While the church bell tolled for the funeral of Mr. Scharback, while the sad 
cortege was passing his house, and the room wherein he lay, the soul of Henry 
Thiel took its everlasting flight. Deceased was born in Wisconsin in 1852 and 
was consequently only 36 years of age when he died. He was ocnfined to his bed 
over eight months, but could not overcome that dread disease consumption.He 
leaves a wife and five children.He was buried in the Catholic cememtert near 
here. services being conducted by Rev.Father Oermeesh of St.Louis. A host of 
friends mourn his early demise and our town loses one of its best citizens.
