Dallas,Or.,Aug 1.(Special) James H.Townsedn,at one time a well known lawyer 
and Democratic politician of this place,died at Perrydale,July 27,aged 49 
years.Mr.Townsend had been in poor health for two years,and his death wa snot 
unexpected.He was a son of the late Ira S.Townsend.H wa sborn near Perrydale 
on November 10,1854.At the age of 25 he was admitted to the bar,and for many 
years afterward was associated with N.L.Butler in the practice of law.Later he 
formed a law partnership with Julius N.Hart,of this city,In 1894,Mr.Townsend 
was prominently mentioned as the Democratic candidate for Governor of 
Oregon,but refused to llow his name to go before the convention.he left a 
widow,but no children.
