WILSON’S REMAINS BROUGHT TO OREGON Wish of Early-Day State Judge to Rest With Wife Caused Transfer From Ohio to The Dalles THE DALLES, Or., Oct. 29. An incident of unusual historical interest occurred in this city today when the body of Judge Joseph G. Wilson was placed in the family lot in a local cemetery, having been brought from Marietta, Ohio where it was interred in 1873. His remains were placed beside those of his wife, Elizabeth M. Wilson, who died here last February, and an appropriate monument was erected today to mark their graves and those of their children who died some years ago. Arrangements for the transfer of the body across the continent and the erection of the monument were made by the children of the late judge, jurist and Congressman, and his wife. The children are Fred W. Wilson, a well-known attorney of this city; Mrs. Grace Taylor, of Sherman, Wyo.; Mrs. F.P. Mays and Mrs. Joseph T. Peters, both of Portland. The transfer of the body fulfills the wish which was expressed by Judge Wilson over half century ago, that his body should finally rest beside the remains of his wife. Few men were more intimately identified with the early history of Oregon than was Judge Wilson. Appointed District Attorney of Marion County in the early years of his long career of public service, he afterward became clerk and reporter of the Supreme Court of Oregon and later one of its justices. The first three volumes of the Oregon Supreme Court were compiled by him and bear his name. When Circuit Judge of this district in the ‘60s, its limits extended from The Dalles to the eastern and southern boundaries of the state, including all of Oregon east of the Cascades. Among the attorneys of that early day who practiced before Judge Wilson were James K. Kelly, Lair Hill, now of Oakland, Cal., Orlando Humason and Lewis L, McArthur, all of whom became prominent men of Oregon.
