J. Clarke Publishing Company DR. WALTER R. ANDERSON, who maintains well appointed offices in the Journal building in Portland, has here engaged in the practice of surgery and medicine since his honorable discharge from military service at the close of the World war. He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1886, and was a youth of fifteen years when in 1901 he came to Portland in company with his father, John A. Anderson, together with his four brothers and two sisters. The maternal grandfather of Dr. Anderson of this review crossed the plains in an ox team and participated in the early Indian wars in the state of Washington. Walter R. Anderson received his professional training in the University of Oregon and was graduated from the medical department of that institution in 1915, while subsequently he pursued postgraduate work in Harvard University. He enlisted for military duty in 1917 and for eighteen months served overseas in the Harvard Surgical Unit of the British army. Thereafter he returned to Portland, where he has since built up an extensive and gratifying practice in the field of surgery. He is on the visiting staff of the Portland Sanitarium and is widely recognized as one of the highly skilled and successful physicians and surgeons of his adopted city. In August, 1927, Dr. Anderson was united in marriage to Hilda Doyle, of Portland. He is a worthy exemplar of the teachings and purposes of the Masonic fraternity, to which he belongs, and is also a member of the Waverly Country Club.
