Clarke Publishing Company HARRY W. BONHAM holds a foremost place among the able and successful business men and public-spirited citizens of St. Johns, Portland, where he has been identified with commercial affairs for twenty-three years. During this period he has also been actively interested in local public affairs and is regarded as one of the representative men of his community. Mr. Bonham was born in Keokuk, Iowa, in 1870, and is a son of George W. and Harriet (Blackburn) Bonham, both of whom are deceased. Having acquired a public school education, Mr. Bonham was first regularly employed as a billing clerk in a shoe factory. Later he worked in a book and stationery store, after which he was with S. F. Baker & Company, at Keokuk, until 1905. In that year he came to Portland, and entered into a partnership with Edmonde S. Currier, establishing a general merchandise business, under the name of Bonham & Currier. This has proven a very successful enterprise and is regarded as one of St. John's most reliable business houses and one of the best suburban stores around Portland. Mr. Bonham is president of this company, also of the firm of Couch & Currier, which established a grocery store in St. John in 1922, is secretary of the real estate holding concern of Currier & Company and a director of the Peninsula National Bank. He has prospered in all of his undertakings and has earned a reputation as a man of clear headed judgment and right methods. In October, 1906, Mr. Bonham was united in marriage to Miss Alice M. Bond, of Chicago, who was born in Iowa. They are the parents of a daughter, Katharine H., who is a student in the University of Oregon. Mr. Bonham has always given his political support to the republican party and fraternally is a Royal Arch Mason. He has shown a helpful interest in local affairs and has rendered effective service as a member of the city council and the school board. Because of his excellent business record and fine personal qualities he commands the uniform respect and esteem of all who know him.
