J. Clarke Publishing Company CHARLES R. BOTELER, manager of the Pioneer Paper Company, of Portland, has exhibited business qualities of the highest order and his concern has shown a steady and substantial growth in its business due to his energetic and progressive efforts. Mr. Boteler was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1892, a son of R. L. and Elizabeth Boteler. The father, who for many years engaged in the contracting business, now resides in Los Angeles, California. The mother died in 1893. Charles R. Boteler received his educational training in the public schools of his native state, graduating from high school, and in 1908 went to San Francisco, California, where he became identified with mercantile affairs as a special salesman. He followed that line of business for eleven years, and in 1921 came to Portland as manager of the Pioneer Paper Company, Inc., of Los Angeles. This company handles all kinds of roofing paper and the house at Portland sells to the jobbing trade exclusively. Mr. Boteler has devoted himself closely to building up the business, in which he has met with notable success. In 1912 Mr. Boteler married Miss Helen Sullivan, of San Francisco. He is a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, in which he has attained the thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite, and is a Noble of the Mystic Shrine. He also belongs to the Alderwood Country Club. He maintains an independent attitude in politics, voting according to the dictates of his judgment. He stands for all that is best in community life, ready to support all measures for the advancement of the public welfare, and his record since coming to Portland has gained for him the uni¬form respect and esteem of all who know him.
