J. Clarke Publishing Company One of the leading trial lawyers of the Multnomah county bar is Keith A. Caldwell, of Portland, who has built up a large civil practice and has gained a high reputation as an able and trustworthy attorney. Mr. Caldwell was born at Middleville, Barry county, Michigan, on the 2d of December, 1896, and is a son of Julius A. and Harriet (Lang) Caldwell. In 1898 the family moved to California, but two years later returned to Michigan, where the father's death occurred. In 1912 Mr. Caldwell and his mother came to Portland, where the mother still lives. Mr. Caldwell received a good public school education in his native state, and in June, 1917, enlisted in the Engineer Corps of the United States Army for service in the World war. He was overseas two years and on receiving an honorable discharge from the army returned to Portland. He was graduated from the Northwestern Law School at Portland in 1922, was admitted to the bar and has been engaged in the practice of law here continuously since. He takes no criminal cases, but has built up a large and growing business in civil law practice, in which he has won a reputation for sound and accurate knowledge of the law, painstaking and careful preparation of his cases and determined and skillful prosecution of all causes entrusted to his care. He is a director of the Japan-China Importing Company, of Seattle, Washington, a director of the Fuel Reduction Company and is interested in several other business enterprises. On May 12, 1924, Mr. Caldwell was united in marriage to Miss Eleanor Louise Stockton, of Portland. He is a member of Willamette Lodge No. 2, A. F. & A. M.; the Delta Theta Phi college fraternity and the Laurelhurst Club. He is a stanch republican in his political views and belongs to the Oregon State Bar Association. Because of his professional attainments, his sterling qualities and his cordial manner, he is held in the highest measure of esteem by all who know him.
