J. Clarke Publishing Company Dr. JOHN G. CHEETHAM has gained distinctive recognition in the medical circles of Portland, in which city his ability, skill and character have won for him a large and remunerative practice. He was born in Canton, St. Lawrence county, New York, in 1893 and is a son of John E. and Mary (Butterworth) Cheetham, the former a native of England and the latter of New York state, their marriage occurring in Canton in 1890. His father came to this country when fourteen years of age, was for many years engaged in the insurance business and is still living in New York. The Doctor has two brothers living, Donald, who is engaged in the practice of medicine in Massachusetts, and Paul, who is engaged in the hotel business in New York city. John G. Cheetham received his early educational training in the public and high schools and entered St. Lawrence University, from which he was graduated in 1913. He matriculated in the medical school of Johns Hopkins University, at Baltimore, Maryland, and was graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1919. He served one year as interne in the Johns Hopkins Hospital and one year as resident surgeon in the Long Island College Hospital, at Brooklyn, New York. He spent three years in postgraduate work at Johns Hopkins and the University of California, and in 1924 entered upon the practice of his profession in Portland. His practice is limited to urology and urological surgery, in which he is regarded as an expert, and he holds a high place in the esteem of his professional colleagues, as well as the confidence of the public. In 1926 Dr. Cheetham was united in marriage to Miss Hazel McKay, of Portland, and they are the parents of a daughter, Jane Frances, who is a year old. The Doctor is a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the University Club, the American Urological Association, the Multnomah County Medical Society, the Oregon State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. During the World war the Doctor served in Camp Meade as a medical reservist. He possesses an attractive personality, being courteous and friendly in manner, and since coming to Portland has won a large circle of loyal friends.
