Clarke Publishing Company HARRY S. DORMAN, in the capacity of general freight agent, is rendering valuable service to the McCormick Steamship Company at Portland, and is regarded as particularly well qualified for that important position. Born in Litchfield, Minnesota, on the 27th of November, 1890, he is a son of George W. and Mamie Elizabeth (Scoles) Dorman. In 1893 the family came to the coast, locating at Everett, Washington, where the father was employed as a mechanical engineer with the Sumner Iron Works. Harry S. Dorman completed the public and high school courses in that city and entered the University of Washington, from which he was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1915. Soon afterward he came to Portland and entered the employ of the Portland Iron Works, with which he was connected until 1917, when he enlisted in the United States Coast Artillery. After a period of training, he was sent overseas, where he served six months, receiving a commission as captain. At the close of the war he returned home and was honorably discharged, after which he came back to Portland and for two years was with the Pacific Car and Foundry Company. In 1923 he entered the employ of the McCormick Steamship Company, and in 1924 was made general freight agent for that company in which position he is still serving. He is alert and energetic, has proven himself a good business getter and has been a material factor in the success of the McCormick line. In January, 1918, Mr. Dorman was united in marriage to Miss Evalyn Cutter, of Seattle, Washington, who is a graduate of the University of Washington, and they are the parents of three children, Theodore, Robert and George. Mr. Dorman is a member of Portland Lodge, No. 5, A. F. & A. M.; Washington Chapter, No. 18, R. A. M.; Portland Post, No. 1, A. L., of which he was commander in 1927; the Columbia Country Club; and the Peninsula Golf Club, of which he is a director. His political views are in harmony with the platform of the republican party.
