He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on the 13th of July, 1880, and is a son of Charles Edwin and Rose Maria (Wood) Durkee. His father was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1853, and in 1876 went to Colorado Springs, where for many years he was engaged in the hardware business. His death occurred in that city in 1900. His wife was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1853, and died in Florida in 1919, being interred beside the body of her husband at Colorado Springs. Charles C. Durkee graduated from the high school at Colorado Springs, after which he attended Michigan Military Academy, and then entered the Colorado State Agricultural College, where he majored in agriculture and irrigation, the latter including civil engineering. Locating then at Canon City, that state, he engaged in farming, which he carried on for five years, giving his attention mainly to fruit raising. He next went to work as plant manager for the Colorado Canning Company at Loveland and in May, 1910, came to Portland, where he has since devoted his attention to civil engineering, beginning his career here as an engineering draftsman. He is now in business on his own account, having well equipped offices in the Lumberman's building, and is meeting with gratifying success. On June 19, 1903, at Fort Collins, Colorado, Mr. Durkee was united in marriage to Miss Wilma W. Turk, of that city. She was born in Hastings, Nebraska, in 1880, a daughter of William W. and Margaret A. (Alexander) Turk, the latter a native of Nebraska. Mr. Turk was engaged in the banking business in Nebraska for a number of years, but later located in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he established a grocery business. Mr. Durkee has a wide acquaintance and is held in high regard by all who know him. He gives his political support to the republican party and is a member of the City Club.
