J. Clarke Publishing Company ROBERT L. FORREST, secretary of the Portland Vegetable Mills Company, of Portland, has been identified with this well known concern from the time of its organization and has devoted his efforts closely to its interests, being regarded as a strong factor in its success. Mr. Forrest was born at Gettysburg, Adams county, Pennsylvania, on the 9th of January, 1887, a son of Lincoln S. and Ida Forrest. His father died in Pennsylvania, and in 1907 the mother brought her family to Portland, where she is now residing. Robert L. Forrest had acquired a good public school education and after coming to this state attended the University of Oregon two years. He went to work for the Union Oil Company of California and was later with the Acme Mills at Albina. He also worked for the Pacific Power and Light Company, after which he was with the Palm Olive Company, which concern he left to accept a position as accountant for the Portland Vegetable Oil Mills Company, which is one of the five companies in this country engaged in the manufacture of cocoanut oil and is a prosperous and successful organization. Mr. Forrest has remained with this company to the present time and on January 1, 1927, was elected secretary and assistant treasurer, for which positions he has proven well qualified. In 1912 Mr. Forrest was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Harriman, of Portland, and they are the parents of one child, Jean. In his political affiliation Mr. Forrest is a republican and fraternally is a member of Washington Lodge, No. 46, A. F. & A. M., and Friendship Chapter, No. 115, O. E. S. Socially he is a member of the Waukeena Club, of which he is a past president. Because of his ability, sterling character and fidelity in every relation of life, he has won and retains the uniform respect and esteem of all who know him.
