J. Clarke Publishing Company H. V. GEORGE, president and treasurer of Klumpp's, Inc., of Portland, is at the head of the largest concern in its line on the Pacific coast, and that he possesses unusual executive ability is evidenced by the fact that in the last five years the business has increased over three hundred per cent in volume. Mr. George was born in Missouri in 1887 and is a son of John D. and Elizabeth (Tucker) George, the former having followed the occupation of farming but is now deceased, while his widow resides in Oklahoma. H. V. George received a good public school education and was employed at various occupations until 1909, when he came to Portland and for a number of years did clerical work for several firms. In 1923 he bought an interest in his present business, with which he has remained identified to the present time. This concern was first established in 1874 by William Klumpp, under the firm name of William Klumpp & Company. Mr. Klumpp died in 1912 and after 1923 the business was carried on by L. E. Klumpp and H. V. George as a partnership. In 1926 Mr. George acquired the Klumpp interest in the business, which was then incorporated under the name of Klumpp's, of which Mr. George is president and treasurer. The business was located at Tenth and Yamhill streets until 1926, when it was moved into the splendid new building, one hundred by one hundred feet, which it now occupies, at 109-115 Sixteenth street north. Here Mr. George has a complete and up-to-date equipment for the manufacture of engraved specialties, particularly greeting cards, which have in the last few years grown tremendously in popularity. The plant has a capacity of five hundred thousand impressions a month and its products are sold all over the Pacific coast. He employs from thirty-five to fifty skilled workmen, the payroll running over fifty thousand dollars a year, and in the management of the business has shown a progressive spirit and a tireless energy that has compelled success. Recent additions to the plant include lithograph equipment, photogravure presses and high speed printing presses for the production of stationery, folders and a larger volume of greeting cards of a different character than heretofore produced. In 1912 Mr. George was united in marriage to Miss Eleanor Scott, of Portland, and they are the parents of three children, Jean, Scott and Harry V., Jr. Mr. George gives his political views to the republican party and has shown himself a public spirited citizen, ready to contribute of his efforts and influence to the advancement of the community. He is a member of Willamette Lodge, No. 2, A. F. & A. M.; Portland Consistory, A. A. S. R.; Al Kader Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S.; the Riverside Country Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Oregon Manufacturers Association. He is a man of splendid personal qualities and throughout the community in which he lives commands uniform respect and confidence.
