J. Clarke Publishing Company One of the able and prominent members of the Multnomah county bar is Glenn E. Husted, of Portland, who has been identified as counsel with many of the most important cases in the county, state and federal courts and has gained wide recognition as an able, experienced and dependable attorney. Mr. Husted was born in Kalamazoo county, Michigan, on the 27th of August, 1874, and is a son of Thomas Edward and Elcey A. (Cheney) Husted. The family has long been established in this country, Mr. Husted being a direct descendant of Robert Husted, who was one of the five founders of Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1635. Mr. Husted completed the courses of the public and high schools in his native state and entered the law school of Columbia University (now George Washington), at Washington, D. C., from which he was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1899, receiving also from his alma mater the degree of Master of Laws in 1900 and that of Doctor of Civil Law in 1901. He was admitted to the bar at Washington, D. C., in 1899, and entered the department of justice, in which he served for a number of years, as assistant attorney, as attorney, and later as special assistant attorney-general. In 1912 he came to Portland in connection with the Oregon-California land grant case, and two years later resigned from the department of justice and, establishing his permanent residence in Portland, engaged in the general practice of law. He has here gained distinctive recognition as a capable, energetic and successful practitioner and commands a large and representative clientele. He is counsel for the Federal Savings and Loan Association, was one of the attorneys for the government in the noted Harriman case, during the Roosevelt administration, to unmerge the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads and has been employed in other important government cases. On June 9, 1897, Mr. Husted was united in marriage to Miss Mary J. Simmers, a daughter of J. A. and Annie Simmers, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and to them have been born two children, David Simmers, who was graduated from the University of Oregon with the degrees of Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Jurisprudence, and is now associated with his father in the practice of law, and Janet Winifred, who is a student in the Oregon State College, at Corvallis. Mr. Husted is a republican in his political affiliation, and is a member of Portland Lodge, No. 55, A. F. & A. M.; the University Club, the Portland Realty Board, the Multnomah County Bar Association, the Oregon State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. During the World war Mr. Husted was in the officers training camp at Eugene, Oregon, and has always evinced the highest type of loyalty to his community and his country, while as a lawyer he has been a worthy exemplar of the ethics and traditions of his profession.
