Clarke Publishing Company G. LEE HYNSON, M. D. Among the members of the medical profession in Portland whose records have been replete with earnest and able service in the alleviation of human suffering, Dr. G. Lee Hynson is entitled to specific mention because of his distinctive success and ability. Born at Milford, Delaware, in 1885, he is a son of Henry L. and Annie (Lord) Hynson, who were married at Camden, Delaware, the mother being a sister of ex-Governor Lord, of that state. Henry L. Hynson was a journalist by profession, was very active in political affairs and was a close friend of the DuPonts, of that state. During President Harrison's administration he was appointed chief clerk of the bureau of navigation, and was about to be appointed United States minister to Persia in 1897, when his death occurred, at the age of forty-two years. He was survived a number of years by his widow, who died in March, 1928. She was well and favorably known in the musical circles of Portland, in which city she had taught music. G. Lee Hynson received his early school training in Milford, Delaware, after which he and his mother and brother, E. L. Hynson, moved to Portland, Oregon, where, between the years 1903 and 1907, he was employed in journalism, spending two years on the Portland Telegram and two years on the Portland Daily Journal. He then entered Jefferson Medical College, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from which he was graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1911. He spent three years as interne in Philadelphia hospitals, being associated considerable of this time with the eminent surgeon, Dr. John B. Deaver, and then returned to Portland in 1914, and entered private practice. When the United States became involved in the World war, the Doctor enlisted in the Medical Corps and was sent overseas, spending one year in France, and on his return to this country was honorably discharged. He then became associated with Dr. R. C. Coffey, with whom he remained for six years, after which he went to Rochester, Minnesota, and was with Mayo Brothers during 1925 and 1926. He has since been engaged in the practice of his profession in Portland, having offices in the Medical Arts building. Dr. Hynson specializes in surgery, in which he is regarded as highly proficient. He is a member of the surgical staffs of Emanuel, Doernbecher and Portland Surgical Hospitals, and is an instructor in surgery in the medical school of the University of Oregon. He is a member of the Portland Academy of Medicine, the Multnomah County Medical Society, the Oregon State Medical Society and the American Medical Association, and belongs to the University Club, the Multnomah Athletic Club, the Multnomah Golf Club, the Aesculapian Round-Tablers, and the Alpha Kappa Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha fraternities. He has been highly successful professionally and commands both the genuine respect of his colleagues and the confidence of the public, while, socially, he is deservedly popular.
