Dr. Leonard's maternal grandfather was William Calhoun Byrd, one of Oregon's earliest settlers. C. H. Dr. Leonard attended the public schools of his native town and pursued his scientific studies in the University of Oregon, which he left in March, 1917, to enter the service of his country. He went to France with the United States Medical Corps, spending six months in that country, and his term of service covered two years and eleven days. After his honorable discharge Dr. Leonard returned to the University of Oregon and was graduated with the class of 1923, winning the M. D. degree. He was an interne of St. Vincent's Hospital for about a year and in 1924 began the practice of Medicine in Portland. Since July, 1925, Dr. Leonard has been a member of the local staff of physicians and surgeons connected with the National Hospital Association and devotes much of his time to surgical work in association with Dr. Slocum. Dr. Leonard was married April 21, 1921, to Miss Hazel Haines, of Burns, Oregon, and they now have two children, Anna Jean and Hazel Irene.
