Matthiessen to advance steadily in the profession of his choice and in legal circles of Portland he occupies a place of prominence. He was born October 10, 1882, in Monticello, Iowa, and is a son of Anton and Louisa (Rettig) Matthiessen. His father is a retired implement dealer and the mother has passed away. Mark M. Matthiessen completed his education in Stanford University, from which he received the degree of J. D. in 1911, and since his admission to the bar he has practiced in Portland. His services are much in demand in the organization and reorganization of corporations, in devising methods to meet business needs, in rescuing commercial interests from disastrous conditions and in furnishing plans for rehabilitation. He is a member of the well known firm of Wood, Montague & Matthiessen, which occupies a suite of offices in the Yeon building and conducts a large and important law business. In 1917 Mr. Matthiessen was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Hutchins, a member of one of the prominent families of Portland. Mr. Matthiessen casts his ballot for the candidates of the republican party but is not active in politics. He is a Mason, a life member of the Multnomah Club, and also belongs to the City Club and the local, state and national bar associations. To those projects which are destined to prove of benefit to Portland he lends the weight of his support and is endowed with those qualities which inspire esteem and friendship.
