J. Clarke Publishing Company F. H. NEVILLE, manager of the Independent Paper Stock Company, at Portland, earned his present position through tireless and efficient service, being a man of sound, practical judgment and good executive ability. He was born in Walla Walla, Washington, in 1891, a son of Harry and Anna Neville. His father, who was a printer, is deceased, and after his death the family moved to Tacoma, Washington, in 1892, and there the mother's death occurred. F. H. Neville received a public and high school education and then worked for the Bell Telephone Company five years. Later he entered the employ of the Cascade Timber Company, of Tacoma, for whom he worked until 1918, when he enlisted in the United States Medical Corps. After a period of training, he was sent overseas, where he served about one year, and on his return to this country was honorably discharged. He then resumed his former position with the Cascade Timber Company, which he held until 1920, when he went to work for the Independent Paper Stock Company. This is an old concern, having been founded in San Francisco many years ago. Some time later a branch was established at Portland, and in 1920 the present building, which is one story high and covers a half block of ground, was erected. This is the first exclusive waste paper concern in Portland and at the warehouse on Overton street the paper is received, graded, packed and baled ready for shipment to paper mills. Fifteen people are employed and the company's business has steadily grown until today it is one of Portland's important concerns. Mr. Neville was made manager at Portland in 1921 and has proven well qualified in every respect for the position. Mr. Neville is a member of the American Legion, the Irvington Club and the Riverside Golf Club and is very popular socially. He maintains an independent attitude in politics, voting in accordance with his judgment. He commands the uniform respect of all who know him and is one of Portland's dependable citizens.
