Phillips, who has been in active practice here for fifteen years and has met with a very gratifying measure of success. Dr. Phillips was born in Leake county, Mississippi, on the 25th of December, 1873, the eldest son of Holden E. Phillips and Marcia E. (Henry) Phillips, who were reared and lived most of their lives in that state. His father, who followed farming most of his life, died December 15, 1905, and is survived by his widow and six children, three sons and three daughters, as follows: Robert A., Joseph A., John W., Mary, Pearl and Lou. Mr. Phillips received his early educational training in the public schools of his home neighborhood, later attending the Agricultural College of his native state, taught in the public schools for a time, then took up the study of medicine, graduating in 1902. He practiced his profession for one year in Mississippi, followed by five years in Louisiana, where he was first married. To this union one son, Robert A., Jr., was born September 11, 1904, who still lives with his father. From Louisiana he moved to Oklahoma, where he practiced for a time, then took up the study of chiropractic, graduating in 1908. He practiced this branch of healing for some years, then studied naturopathy, and on January 5, 1913, arrived in Portland, where he has since resided. For two and one-half years he taught anatomy, pathology and allied subjects in the Pacific Chiropractic College, though in 1914 he entered upon his professional work, having his offices in the Broadway building. He has complete and up-to-date equipment and is regarded as an expert in his field of practice, in which he has met with large success. Dr. Phillips' second matrimonial alliance took place in Portland, to Elizabeth Short, of Leavenworth, Kansas. Mrs. Phillips is a member of Chapter No. 8 of the Delphians, while the Doctor is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is a man of sterling character, agreeable personality and cordial manner, is closely devoted to his life work and since coming to Portland has commanded the uniform respect and esteem of the people among whom he has labored.
