J. Clarke Publishing Company FRED F. PITTOCK, one of Portland's leading men of affairs and a representative of one of its honored old families, was born in this city on the 11th of May, 1864, a son of Henry Lewis and Georgina Martin (Burton) Pittock. The father, who is mentioned at length on another page of this publication, came to this locality seventy-five years ago and during the greater part of his after life was numbered among Portland's most influential and distinguished citizens. Fred F. Pittock acquired his preliminary education in grade and high schools of Portland and subsequently pursued a course of study in St. Augustine's School for Boys at Benicia, California. Thereafter he entered the printing plant of the Oregonian, in which he learned the trade, and was connected with various departments of that paper until 1900, since which time he has devoted his attention to the management of his property interests, which are extensive. He is a member of the board of directors of the Portland Trust Company and is regarded as a man of business ability and sound judgment. In early manhood Mr. Pittock was united in marriage to Miss Bertha C. Leadbetter, of Camas, Washington, and to them have been born six children, namely: Virginia, Marjorie, Barbara, Roberta, Frederick and Henry L. Mr. Pittock has been a lifelong supporter of the republican party and has taken a deep interest in public affairs, particularly such as have related to the progress and prosperity of his home city and state. His name is on the membership rolls of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Multnomah Athletic Club, the Portland Golf Club and the Auld Lang Syne Society.
