N. SEVIER, president of the Sevier Commission Company, is one of the most prominent figures in the livestock business in Portland and is meeting with a large measure of success. Born in Harrison county, Missouri, in 1886, he is a son of J. W. and Margaret R. (Funk) Sevier, who now reside in Portland. He secured a good public school education, after which he devoted his attention to farming in association with his father until 1909, when he came to Portland. Soon afterward he entered the employ of Swift & Company, serving as assistant buyer for a few years, but in 1916 he resigned and entered business on his own account, organizing the Sevier Commission Company, of which he is president. He handles live stock, selling on commission for stock growers and shippers, and has built up a large and prosperous business as the result of his sound judgment and discrimination. In 1924 Mr. Sevier built the two-story brick building at the corner of Twelfth and Hudson streets in the city of Longview, Washington, known as the Sevier building, containing a garage and living apartments. In 1915 Mr. Sevier was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy A. Nash, of Portland, and they are the parents of three children, Claudia May, Betty Jean and Donald N. Mrs. Sevier's parents, John and Ellen (Hurley) Nash, came to Oregon from Bloomington, Illinois, forty-five years ago. Mr. Nash served for a while as a policeman in Portland, but soon formed a partnership with his brother, and under the name of Nash Brothers, erected many buildings in the St. Johns district in Portland. The father died in Portland when fifty-three years old and the mother still lives in Portland and is sixty-five years of age. Mr. Sevier is a stanch republican in his political views and is a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Columbia Country Club. He also belongs to the Livestock Exchange, of which he has been president for the past two years. He is a man of straightforward manner, honorable in all of his dealings, and wherever known commands confidence and respect, while in social circles he is deservedly popular.
