Clarke Publishing Company DR. WAYNE J. STATER, M. D. is an able representative of the medical profession in Portland where he has been engaged in Practice for the past five years, specializing in surgery. He was born in Newberg. Oregon in 1894 and is a son of William J. and Grace (Ford) Stater. The mother is a native of Gray's Harbor and by her marriage has four sons and one daughter. The father has been successfully engaged in business as a realtor throughout his active career. Dr. Stater supplemented his early education acquired in the city of his nativity by a high school course at McMinnville. Following this he graduated from the University of Oregon. He received his medical education in Boston. For four years he attended the Harvard Medical School where he received an M. D. degree and taught for two years in the basal surgical sciences in that classic institution. In 1922 and 1923 he studied under Dr. Harvey Cushing at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston. At the beginning of his professional career in Portland he was associated with Dr. Robert C. Coffey since which time he has practiced independently and has gained favorable recognition in the field of surgery. He keeps in close touch with the most advanced thought, research and investigation through his membership in the City, County and State Medical Societies, The American Medical Association, The American College of Surgeons, and by contributions to his field of medical literature on experimental and practical problems. Dr. Stater is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and a member of Beta Theta Pi and Phi Rho Sigma fraternities. In Portland, in 1921, Dr. Stater was united in marriage to Mary Murdoch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miller Murdoch of this city. Mrs. Stater is a graduate of Portland Academy and the University of Washington and attended the University of Oregon and Radcliffe College for a time. They are the parents of two children: Suzanne, a little maiden of four summers; and Wayne J. Jr. who is fourteen months old.
