J. Clarke Publishing Company DR. GEORGE B. THOMPSON has been engaged in the optical manufacturing business in Portland for over twenty years and, due to the uniformly high quality of his work and his prompt and efficient business methods, commands the respect of all who have dealt with him. He was born in San Francisco, California, in 1883, and is a son of William and Mary (Burke) Thompson, who were married in that city. He attended the public schools of his home city, graduating from the Central high school, and later attended the Benson school of that place. In 1904 he engaged in the optical manufacturing business in San Francisco, but in the following year came to Portland, where he took up the same line of business. In 1906 he returned to San Francisco, but his one year in Portland had convinced him that it was the best city on the coast and in 1907 he established his permanent residence here and has remained to the present time. His business has enjoyed a steady and substantial growth and he is now regarded as one of the leaders in his line in this section of the country. He is careful and painstaking in the handling of every job entrusted to him and is well established in the confidence of the trade. In 1906 Dr. Thompson was united in marriage to Miss Benita Jackson, who was reared and educated in Oakland, California. He gives his political support to the republican party and since coming to Portland has proven a public spirited and progressive citizen. He is a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the O. P. T. Association. Courteous and accommodating in manner and honorable in all of his affairs, he well merits the success which has come to him.
