Clarke Publishing Company DR. GEORGE ELIOT WATTS, M. D. has been engaged in the practice of medicine in Portland for thirty-two years, during which period he has been uniformly successful professionally and has won and retains the genuine respect of the people among whom he has lived and labored. Born in Portland in 1874, he is a son of Lewis W. and Imelda (Bender) Watts, the latter a native of Pennsylvania. Lewis W. Watts, who followed farming throughout his active life, was born in Oregon territory and came of an old pioneer family, his parents having crossed the plains with ox teams and covered wagons in 1847. Dr. Watts has a brother, Walter W., and four sisters. He received his elementary education in the public schools and prepared for his life work in the University of Oregon, from which he was graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1895. He served as interne in the Good Samaritan Hospital and engaged in the practice of his profession in Baker City, Oregon, but in 1896 came to Portland, where he has ministered to the physical ills of the people for nearly a third of a century. He specializes in female diseases and his professional record stamps him as a man of wide learning and exceptional skill. In 1920, in Portland, the Doctor married Mrs. Alice Rockwell Iverson and they have a son, George Eliot, Jr., aged six and a half years. The Doctor is a member of the various Masonic bodies, the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the United Artisans Life Association and the Aero Club of Oregon, while professionally he is affiliated with the American Association of Medico-Research, the American Association of Orificial Surgeons and the American Academy of Conservative Proctology. Dr. Watts is vice president and treasurer of the National Aircraft Corporation, which was organized in January, 1928, and is engaged in building aeroplanes. Their plant, which is located at Beaverton, Oregon, is an up-to-date and well equipped factory, located on a tract of thirty-three acres, and will soon be producing planes at the rate of one a day. Dr. Watts has at all times shown a commendable interest in the general welfare and progress of his community and throughout his extensive acquaintance commands uniform respect and confidence.
